When I saw this woman's face, I immediately knew she felt comfortable in her skin. Clearly, she'd had a long life, but the vicissitudes she had experienced had not worn her down. Her resilience had kept her going. Her experiences had given her two gifts - wisdom and compassion. Her eyes also spoke to me of empathy. This woman was an elder in her community, someone that the young and middle-aged could turn to for advice.
