I saw this man walking in a religious procession one rainy evening in the narrow streets of Valetta. The scene was illuminated by street lights. I took a quick snapshot. Later in my studio, I realized that this scene offered two technical challenges: to capture the expression of happiness on his face and accurately portray the shadows cast by the streetlights. As I look at this painting, I am reminded of life's simple joys. This simple-looking man clearly found meaning and happiness through his religious affiliation.
